My Car Stalls Frequently After Getting It Fixed…twice?

So about 2-3 weeks ago i went to get an oil change for my automatic 2002 volkswagen gti 1.8t. the vw dealership suggested a tuneup, and that my waterpump was broken and my coolant contaminated. well 3 days later i got my car back, but they haven’t worked on my car…yet(+$400 for the tuneup i think) then right after that my car started to stall during the week. the first time i was angry and i thought i was just doing it wrong(divine intervention, good reason). the 2nd time was in san francisco during traffic! it worked again after the 3rd try, and i got home safely. we took my car to another european autobody shop about a week ago, but they couldnt “reproduce the stalling” but they did fix my waterpump and another piece to my car was “brittle”(i dont remember what it was +$700) and they replaced both. i got my car back, and the stalling happened again today. it took it about 30 minutes to start. does anyone have any idea what could be causing the stalling? it makes that ch ch ch soun

Stalling after a tune up usually means the tech who worked on it screwed up. The 1.8 turbos are known to have temperamental map sensors. If there was a vacuum hose disconnected or damaged, it would cause stalling at initial acceleration from an idling stop. Also, if the air snorkel isn’t on the throttle body properly, causing an air leak, the m.a.f. would sense no air flow and the engine would shut down.

Wow girl ! I do not have the nerve to take someone like that. The dealer “suggests” a tune up ? and all of a sudden your waterpump broke and the coolant is contaminated. I hope that whoever did the waterpump installed a new timing belt at the same time . Please get a second opinion before having work done. You are getting taken. My daddy always said ” I may have been born at night, But it wasn`t last night ” . Maybe all it needed was a fuel filter. If this car is a high miler it may be better to look at something else

    Battery or spark plugs.

I would have the fuel pump pressure checked. It almost sounds like a ‘vapor lock’ problem caused by a weak fuel pump.
    Hope this helps.
