Imagine a flatter San Fransico. Same open values. Less night clubs.
People from San Fran generally do very well moving up here. The weather is roughly the same as in the Bay Area.
Just a bit of Portland Trivia – You mentioned you like Almost Famous. The lady that the Penny Lane character was inspired by lives here in Portland and is a local music producer. You probably know that Mr Hollands Opus was filmed in North East Portland.
My husband and I are amatuer photographers and there is a lot of fun places to take pictures both in the city, and within an hour of the city. People always compliment what we have hanging up in our house.
What kind of stuff do you write? The guy that wrote the book “Fight Club” lives in Portland. There is a great group of screen writers up here.
Portland loves it’s art, on the first Thursday of every month it’s like a party down town (in the Pearl District mostly), all the galleries stay open late and serve wine and people come out to look at the art, and maybe buy a peice or two. We call it First Thursday. As a result several suburbs have First Wednesday or Second Thursday.
I don’t know if I would classify Portland as exciting. But my friends that visit from other states, love coming here. People are very nice here. My neighbors, just moved here from San Fran, and they love it.

I love it here. While it rains a lot, I don’t mind because it’s mostly just spiddle anyways. here’s some sites that may helphttp://oregonlive.comhttp://www.wweek.com/http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/…http://www.traveloregon.com
I think Portland is as exciting as you make it, but that’s really with any place a person lives. You know how some people are kinda downers and don’t ever want to explore what’s out there?? Portland always has something going on. We have tons of festivals, and at times it just seems like there is so much to do. Most things don’t advertise hardcore so it’s up to each of us to wander around and discover the unknown on our own.
I agree with the lady above, most people from SF like it here. There are so many things to discover, I haven’t even come close to find it all when I wander around the city investigating what’s out there.
